Docs Refresher is a nice dive bar! Food and drinks at reasonable prices, with plenty of sauce options. Great place to watch basketball games or get work done, while having some drinks!
- Splendid Wifi

- Lots of seating options
- Open late relative to other locations in Berkeley
For a calm weekend drinking atmosphere, Docs Refresher is the place to go to in Berkeley! -

First of all, I do NOT write reviews...basically ever, on any type of site, for any reason...good or bad! HOWEVER, the review I'm responding to is incredibly disturbing, and I feel I must say something about it in an effort to correct and clarify the horrible, wrong impression it gives.
I happened to be hanging out with friends in this bar on the very same night this review was apparently written about -- and during those same, last two hours that Docs was open. I not only find the entire review COMPLETELY FALSE (on every level), but it's filled with blatant LIES about the bartender who is as working that night, her refreshing (very kind, not at all pushy, and almost southern-like) level of customer service, the man that clearly knew the bartender well and that this reviewer is accusing of being threatening, as well as the FACTS of the evening and when the bar actually closed. Add to all of this the disturbing additional fact that this reviewer is clearly trying to insinuate that he (and possibly his friends?) were cut off, made to feel uncomfortable, kicked out early, and possibly verbally or physically harassed and threatened because they were gay (!!!), and this review not only becomes a chart-topper in my mind for biggest lies I've ever read online about a local business, but it's also a valuable lesson in the preposterous things some people will say or do in order to advance their agendas. It's truly sad what modern society, and this country as a whole, has become.
From my perspective as a fellow customer (and first-hand witness) that evening, there is absolutely NO TRUTH in what this person is claiming, and for this gentleman to even try to make his group's departure from Docs about being gay is deeply and completely disgusting. Keep your hate and paranoia to yourself, please; it doesn't belong in a welcoming, public establishment. The bar did NOT close early AT ALL. It was consistently busy from 9pm-12am, which is when I was there; last call was announced - audibly - sometime around 11:15-11:25 (I'm not exactly sure when, as I already had a drink and didn't want another); and, around 12am-12:10am as my party was filing out, there was only one set/one group of customers remaining in the bar at closing who CLEARLY DID NOT WANT TO LEAVE and who seemed annoyed that Docs closed at 12am. That must have been your (argumentative) party!
Please grow up and put the blame for your apparent disappointment about your evening where it belongs: ON YOU. A bartender, regardless of being a woman or a man, shouldn't have to (politely!) remind you that the business closes/closed at 12am more than once, let alone 3-4 separate times, nor should anyone waiting (for her, in that night's case) to walk her out safely - staff or someone else connected to the person - need to stick around an extra 1/2 hour or more until you and your group felt like going home. In the future, I encourage you to please learn to respect the establishments you visit; maybe then, you'll learn to reflect internally on a situation, rather than try to damage a businesses' or worker's reputation based solely on the (selfish) fact that you weren't done partying yet.
It's so incredibly unfortunate that reviews like yours exist on forums like this one, as they're exactly the type of thing that gives a solid, striving yet struggling, small business a bad name. You should be ashamed of yourself. -

Came here for friend's goodbye party! We rarely ventured out this way! In fact, the last time I was in Berkeley was a decade ago!
We didn't know what to expect! Circling around for parking space, saw a spot with broken glasses on the ground! Didn't feel good, but we finally got a spot a block away!
It's more like a neighborhood spot, super chill, local folks!
I love love love how dogs friendly it is here! Wish I could bring my boy DJ! Met a gorgeous pitbull girl, so chill! Met a lap toy dog mutt, super friendly!
Of course, it's a bar! But not a dive bar as we thought! Watching the Warriors beat up the LA Clippers was a trip by 17 points, HA!
Our friends booked a private party!
OMG Passmore Ranch caviar over Tater Tots, cream fraiche, chai, seriously st a sport bar! No it can't be happening!
Those spicy chicken wings, thru can do fried without the spicy sauce too!
Quesadilla for only $6, add on Pico de Gallo over cabbage, damn fresh and tasty! I feel like a fat pig at this point but hey! It's a celebration party!
I just did Mission Peak, I'm ok! HA!
The manager or owner Jennifer was so awesome! Down to earth, even got us Lanson Champagne! A sport bar with 2 red wine, 1 white, 1 rosé! But managed to order my party Champer! Kudos to her.
She was kind enough didn't charge us corkage fee for 2 bottles we brought in!
WOW! We were so impressed but not yet! NO ONE bothers us! No up-sell, no rushing us out, just left us be!
The freaking restrooms, also unisex for this liberal town! We were at the tapas place La Marcha, this place restroom was 5X cleaner!
I know, I know, I sound stupid but if the restroom is clean, I freaking trust the kitchen/bar! Simple as it, and I follow this rule!
Love the comic art works, the double mirrors for touch up your make up & selfie HA
25 of us all had a great time!
Who knew a simple neighborhood bar can be this cool and charming?
Thank you Jennifer and your staff for the cool experience we got!
Go Warriors! -

Super friendly, great local and neighborhood feel to this place. The burgers are stupendous, bartender was extremely warm, the bathrooms were extremely clean and lots of seating available. Highly recommended if you're looking for a place to catch a sports event, hang out with friends or just bum around on your own!
